Born in Seoul in 1994, Seong-Jin Cho began playing piano at the age of six. Since 2012 he has lived in France where he studies at the Paris Conservatoire under Michel Béroff.

Laureate of the prestigious musical competitions including the Sixth Moscow International Frederick Chopin Competition for Young Pianists (2008), the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition (2009), the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (2011) and the 2014 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel Aviv. In 2015 he was awarded First Prize at the prestigious Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw becoming the first Korean pianist to achieve that. His live album from the competition has since registered a total of nine-times platinum sales in Korea and achieved gold status in Poland, the land of Chopin’s birth. His playing was characterized as “poetic, introspective, gracefulˮ (Financial Times), and the Guardian reviewer noted that “the restraint and subtle discrimination of Cho’s playing, combined with his silvery, never fulsome sound, is constantly beguilingˮ.

In summer 2016 Seong-Jin Cho performed with the Mariinsky Orchestra under the direction of Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky International Festival in Vladivostok. He also collaborated with the Munich Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra, NHK Orchestra, as well as with major conductors including Myung-Wun Chung, Lorin Maazel, Mikhail Pletnev and many others.

Cho’s first studio album, dedicated exclusively to Chopin (four ballads and First Concerto) was released in November 2016. Current season he is set to make several high-profile recital debuts, notably at Carnegie Hall in February 2017.
